Hi, my name is Rubén. I was raised in a small island in the Caribbean, but I am part of the world.
I feel connected to everyone. In my education, I studied international relations; I graduated from
Ritsumeikan University (Kyoto, Japan). I have always considered myself an artist. I am often silly
and funny.

Q. What’s your favorite color?
A. Aquamarine
Q. What’s the first thing that comes to mind when I say “blue”?
A. “Wow, how’d you know my favorite color is blue?” … Blue makes me think of the sunrays
shining under the waves of a Caribbean beach; the sea blue.
Q. Do you have kids?
A. I do not have any kids yet. I am the uncle of 3 super nieces!
Q. How does that impact you at work as a teacher?
A. I feel that not having my own children allows me to keep the objective perspective of being a
teacher and mentor to the children without turning to a parenting-style. I do sometimes feel like
I’m turning into a cool uncle style, haha!
Q. What are three things you value?
A. Honesty. Nature. Enigmas.
Q. What kind of place was your hometown?
A. My hometown was urbanized, but still had connections to the beaches and rain forest of
Puerto Rico.
Q. What is your favorite Japanese food?
A. I enjoy tasting the different types of Ramen across all the prefectures of Japan.

A. Italian lasagna.

A. 小倉ヶ浜 (Hyuga, Kyushu)

A. My relaxed sense of humor… “Why so serious?”
