A little about myself: My dad is an elementary school science teacher and my mom is a retired city worker. I have two older brothers. We grew up in a trailer in rural Florida but my brothers and I moved to New York City when we got older, so I experienced two very different lifestyles. I’m a proud alumnus of New York University! I came to Japan in 2014 and lived in Gunma Prefecture for three years. Kanagawa is great and I am really excited to be here!

Q. What’s your favorite color?
A. Aqua

Q. What’s the first thing that comes to mind when I say “aqua“?
A. The Bahamas!

Q. What are three things you value?
A. Honesty, fairness, and learning from mistakes

Q. What kind of place was your hometown?

  1. I grew up on the outskirts of Jacksonville, Florida. Lots of trees, dirt roads, and farm animals. But greater Jacksonville has awesome BBQ and nice beaches.

Q. What is your favorite Japanese food?
A. Unagi!

Q. What is your favorite non-Japanese food?
A. Key lime pie (with a cup of black coffee)

Q. What’s your favorite place in Japan outside Tokyo?
A. A ryokan in Gunma called Takaragawa. I have a lot of special memories there.

Q. What place in Japan do you want to go?

  1. So many! For example: Yakushima, Beppu hot springs, and Hokkaido.

Q. What do you like best about yourself?
A. I am a goal-oriented person, and I always find ways to achieve my goals and dreams, as opposed to finding reasons not to do things or being too scared to do something, so I guess you could say I am a positive person as well.

Q. What do you do on your free time?
A. Play guitar! I love music. I also love going to recycle shops, buying and fixing used guitar equipment.

Q. What country do you want to visit the most?
A. Mongolia. I want to go horseback riding there.

Q. What are your favorite movies?
A. Classic Disney moves, especially 101 Dalmatians and Robin Hood. I grew up on fantasy epics like Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter so I have a soft spot for those too!

Q. Who are your favorite actors/actresses?

  1. Leonardo DiCaprio, Emma Watson, Elijah Wood, Daniel Day Lewis, and Jim Carrey

Q. What is another field of work that is very interesting to you?
A. I would love to work at an airport. I think airports are fascinating and if I see any documentary on Youtube, I fall down that rabbit hole and watch for hours!

Q. What is one thing you want to do before you die?
A. See the Aurora Borealis

Q. Why did you come to Japan?
A. I always wanted to teach in a foreign country. When I was a college student, I became really interested in Japan because I enjoyed reading Japanese authors like Haruki Murakami and Kenzaburo Oe. Once I finished school and teaching in a foreign country became a realistic path, my destination was a no-brainer!
